BASEBALL PLAYOFFS, NASCAR PLAYOFFS
10/5- I have to say this year I’m quite sad to see the baseball season end especially
for the Braves, knowing that there are only a few games left to watch Bobby Cox as manager. On a happy note he has a few more
games since they made the postseason. I can say one thing so far I was right Braves made postseason and did it for Bobby.
Postseason should be an interesting one since Chipper
went down and now Martin Prado got injured and so also out. There are some good notes; Lowe will start followed by Hanson
and Hudson as the three starters against San Francisco.
Braves
this season against San Francisco were 4-2. They went 3-1 when they played last time in August. They also have a winning record
against Cincinnati 3-2. (I said earlier Cincinnati was going to make the playoffs). When it comes to the Phillies it’s
another story 8-10. So I’m hoping not to get Phillies.
I
would like to see Braves and Cincinnati go in the next round of playoffs along with Tampa Bay and Yanks.
Now
for the drivers in the Chase, I said that Biffle and Bowyer were going to fall short and McMurray and Newman were going to
make it I was wrong. Biffle, Bowyer and Tony all made it along with Gordon, Jimmie, and Harvick like I thought. Now the only
question is who is going to win the championship? Can Jimmie make it number five?
I think Jimmie may pull it off for another year but it will be close with Harvick. I think
he can taste it and wants to win it bad since he had be leading the points for most of the year.
FANTASY FOOTBALL
8/26/10- With fantasy football around the corner, it only seems right to talk about
my picks. I’m again ready to beat the boys like I did last year only this time I’m in two leagues instead of one.
The pressure is on for me to get this right the only hard thing is backing it up. One league is family and the other I got
into for talking crap to a friend and now I have to prove it.
I have to go with Aaron Rodgers since he did great last year. He has a lot of great
players around him that make him good and give him support. I also like Matt Ryan of Falcons along with a few of his teammates
Michael Turner, and Tony Gonzalez. Ryan had a turf toe problem last year that hurt him, but now he’s more than ready
with Turner to continue to improve. With Ryan’s past two seasons he has not had a losing record with the Falcons, they
can only go up from there. Chris Johnson was awesome last year. He has impressed me with what he can do I just hope he continues
it again this year.
So
sleepers I think are going to be Jahvid Best of Detroit, and C.J. Spiller of Buffalo. Best came from Cal in the Pac-10, during
his three year career there his total rushing yards are almost 3,000. He also had 29 TDs. Spiller came from Clemson, during
his four year career he had almost 3,500 yards rushing and 31 TDs.
A sleeper team I think is going to be Detroit. I think they might surprise some
people with having Matt Stafford as QB, Jahvid Best as a rookie RB, they picked up Nate Burleson, and have Calvin Johnson.
The team is going to have some run support.
A team I’m hoping that can improve from last is Washington Redskins since they picked up Donovan McNabb
now they need to support him. I wish him the best this season.
Strasburg
vs. Atlanta
Last Monday June 28, was a great baseball game to
watch. It was a real pitchers dual until the top of the seventh when the rookie came undone and the veteran came through.
It was my first real chance to get to watch Stephan Strasburg in action. I kept hearing how great he had been doing in his
four previous starts and was waiting to see what he could do against the Braves.
It was a great game between pitchers thru a great six innings
with Strasburg and Tim Hudson. When the seventh came around it was a whole new story. Throughout the game Strasburg had been
relaying on his changeup and when the batting order came around the third time the Braves had an idea of what he was going
to do. Chipper started off the seventh with a walk and then things seemed to change with Strasburg. After Chipper got on base
it seemed as though Chipper was getting in Strasburg’s head and messing with him. Things started
unraveling after Chipper got on first, McCann singled; Glaus reached on by an error which got the bases loaded. When Hinske
did a sac fly which got Chipper in, then Escobar singled and got McCann home which was Strasburg’s end. Starasburg gave
three earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched. He threw 92 pitches, two walks, 4 runs, 6 hits and 7 k’s with a 2.27 ERA.
This also marked his second loss in a row, but showed a lot of talent and promise up to the seventh. In his interview after
the game he had talked about how he was frustrated with himself and how he had struggled.
I think this game was a true
test to see what he could do and how well he could face a great team and he had shown that for most of the game I just believe
our veteran is better. It was a great learning experience for Strasburg, give him more time and hard teams that he will face
he will do just fine. We just had the upper hand and great playing by Chipper who seemed to be able show he still has a few
tricks in his age.
As a side note a team that has been proving to me great compared to last season
since we’re now close to halfway would be the Reds. When we played them and when I’ve caught Sportscenter I keep
hearing good things. They are leading the NL Central right now and have improved well from last year where they finished below
.500 overall. I will predict they will get a playoff spot this year.
